There is nothing worse than trying to get rid of hiccups that have been nagging you for what feels like an eternity. You have researched all sorts of possible remedies that promise to work. You’ve tried to drink water upside down. That of course didn’t work. You’ve had your friends try and scare you, but that was unsuccessful as well. You even tried random things like swallowing teaspoons of honey or cinnamon. Well, I have developed a breathing technique that seems to be a powerful ally in the war to get rid of hiccups. Here is a 3 step process to get rid of hiccups that is sure to ease your stress, and possible pain:
Step 1 – Take a deep breath and immediately let it out. Now take another deep breath and hold it. In your mind, start to count to 20.
Step 2 – This step is the key to making this exercise to get rid of hiccups work. While you are counting to 20, you are probably going to hiccup again. When this happens, you need to continue to hold your breath. Most people will hiccup and let it out. You need to concentrate on fighting through the hiccup and holding your breath for the entire 20 seconds. Once reached, exhale.
Step 3 – With your VERY NEXT BREATH, inhale and hold it for another 20 count. Again, fight through any hiccups and try to make it to 20. Once reached, exhale and take another couple of breaths. You should be hiccup free. If not, try the process one more time. I have never had to do this process more than twice to get rid of hiccups. It’s always been reliable and will always be the first method I go to get rid of those annoying hiccups.
